Project Name
Preparation of Sewer Spill Response Plan and I&I Study for Various Locations, Oahu, Hawaii

Client/Owner
Army Corps of Engineers, Pacific Ocean Division

Project Description
The project was to evaluate the collection system I/I conditions at Schofield, Helemano, Fort Shafter, Trippler, and Aliamanu bases. The project installed flow monitors at 15 locations and rain gauges at 2 locations in two wet seasons (1999 - 2000 and 2000 - 2001). After sufficient dry weather flow data were collected, flow monitors were put into so-called gsleeping modeh and reactivated when wet seasons arrived. The collected data were used to assess both dry weather and wet weather infiltrations of the collection systems. Dry weather infiltration unit rates for different areas were estimated by calibrating dry weather flows with the population data and wet weather infiltration unit rates were calculated by correlating wastewater flows during storms with rainfall volume. The study was divided into two phases, corresponding to the two wet season flow monitoring.
